Cows face “Cow Emission Tax”

Monday, January 5th, 2009

From the Business and Media Institute:

“The new president has been on record as saying that he really supports regulating greenhouse gases out of the Clean Air Act,” Krause said to the Business & Media Institute. “So, we really have to keep an eye on it. Legislation would really be the only way to exempt it at this point – the cow tax.”

Et tu Bessy? Is no one or nothing safe anymore.

The fact that the 2008 is the coolest year since 10 years ago doesn’t seem to bother the climate change crowd. Global warming is creating global cooling. It must be stopped!

Elizabeth Edwards to give up tangerines to fight ‘global warming’

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

This is hard to believe, but from someone like Elizabeth Edwards, not impossible.  Oh, and she lives in a 28,200 square foot house.  No joke.  How’s that electric bill Lizzy?

From The Politico - “We’ve been moving back to ‘buy local,’” Mrs. Edwards said, outlining a trade policy that “acknowledges the carbon footprint” of transporting fruit.

“I live in North Carolina. I’ll probably never eat a tangerine again,” she said, speaking of a time when the fruit reaches the price that it “needs” to be.

So what have we got so far from our ‘do as we say, not as we do’

- one square of toilet paper per person, per use.
- give up bottled water (transport costs, plastic comes from petroleum)
- new taxes for BBQs
- no tangerines !

Move to cut methane emissions by changing cows’ diet

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Those pesky flatulent bovines are at it again and this time they are burping too.   So says the UK Guardian.

“The diet of farmed animals can be changed to make them produce less methane, a more potent global warming gas than carbon dioxide. Farmed ruminant animals are thought to be responsible for up to a quarter of “man-made” methane emissions worldwide though, contrary to common belief, most gas emerges from their front, not rear, ends.”

And at all my times at the zoo I have never once heard a cow or sheep say excuse me after they burp.

Perhaps we should move to alter the diet of the great “Goreacle” so he may spew less hot air too.  Every little bit helps, yes ?

12 cents a litre at pump will avert environmental “catastrophe.”

Monday, June 18th, 2007

TheStar.com from Canada reports “The Green party wants Canadian drivers to pay an extra 12 cents a litre at the gas pumps as the price of averting environmental catastrophe.”

“Leader Elizabeth May is boasting that her party is the only one politically brave enough to call for carbon taxes that would discourage automobile use.”

That’s pretty brave indeed.

Belgium to impose tax on barbequing to fight global warming

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

From the Russian News and Information Agency (RIAN) “Residents of Wallonia, a town of 4 million in Belgium, will have to pay 20 euros for a grilling session. Experts said that between 50 and 100 grams of CO2, a so-called greenhouse gas, is emitted during barbequing.”

“The local authorities plan to monitor compliance with the new tax legislation from helicopters, whose thermal sensors will detect burning grills. ”

Look out for the BBQ police and hide your Weber.

Russia knows how to prevent global warming

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

From the Russian News and Information Agency (RIAN) “Russian scientists believe that global warming can be slowed down by releasing aerosols into the lower stratosphere, a top scientist said Wednesday.”

“The director of the Global Climate and Ecology Institute, Yury Izrael, told a news conference that if a sulfur-based aerosol were sprayed into the atmosphere at a height of 10-14 kilometers (six to 10 miles), the sulfur particles would reflect the sun’s rays. ”

“He said one million tons of aerosol would enable a reduction of solar irradiance at the Earth’s surface of 0.5-1%, and a lowering of air temperature by 1-1.5 degrees Celsius. ”

I remember a time when aerosols were thought to be the problem - now they’re the solution !
