Obama Inauguration Will Produce 575 MILLION Pounds of CO2

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

The Institue for Liberty has put together some figures detailing the very unGREEN inauguration set for Jan 20, 2009.

  • *Celebrities, politicians, and bigwigs using 600 private jets will produce 25,320,000 POUNDS of CO2
  • *Personal vehicles could account for 262,483,200 POUNDS of CO2
  • *In the parade, horses alone will produce more than 400 POUNDS of CO2
  • *The total carbon footprint for the Inauguration will likely exceed 575 million POUNDS of CO2
  • *It would take the average U.S. household 57,598 years to produce a carbon footprint equal to that of the new president’s housewarming party

Google searches leave environmental impact

Monday, January 12th, 2009

According to the The Times UK:

“Performing two Google searches from a desktop computer can generate about the same amount of carbon dioxide as boiling a kettle for a cup of tea, according to new research.

While millions of people tap into Google without considering the environment, a typical search generates about 7g of CO2 Boiling a kettle generates about 15g. “Google operates huge data centres around the world that consume a great deal of power,” said Alex Wissner-Gross, a Harvard University physicist whose research on the environmental impact of computing is due out soon. “A Google search has a definite environmental impact.”

Google is secretive about its energy consumption and carbon footprint. It also refuses to divulge the locations of its data centres”

Earth on the Brink of an Ice Age

Monday, January 12th, 2009

According to Pravda.Ru, we are now entering a cooling stage.

“The earth is now on the brink of entering another Ice Age, according to a large and compelling body of evidence from within the field of climate science. Many sources of data which provide our knowledge base of long-term climate change indicate that the warm, twelve thousand year-long Holocene period will rather soon be coming to an end, and then the earth will return to Ice Age conditions for the next 100,000 years.

Ice cores, ocean sediment cores, the geologic record, and studies of ancient plant and animal populations all demonstrate a regular cyclic pattern of Ice Age glacial maximums which each last about 100,000 years, separated by intervening warm interglacials, each lasting about 12,000 years.

About 325,000 years ago, at the peak of a warm interglacial, global temperature and CO2 levels were higher than they are today. Today we are again at the peak, and near to the end, of a warm interglacial, and the earth is now due to enter the next Ice Age. If we are lucky, we may have a few years to prepare for it. The Ice Age will return, as it always has, in its regular and natural cycle, with or without any influence from the effects of AGW.

Brrrrrr.

Cows face “Cow Emission Tax”

Monday, January 5th, 2009

From the Business and Media Institute:

“The new president has been on record as saying that he really supports regulating greenhouse gases out of the Clean Air Act,” Krause said to the Business & Media Institute. “So, we really have to keep an eye on it. Legislation would really be the only way to exempt it at this point – the cow tax.”

Et tu Bessy? Is no one or nothing safe anymore.

The fact that the 2008 is the coolest year since 10 years ago doesn’t seem to bother the climate change crowd. Global warming is creating global cooling. It must be stopped!

Sea Ice Ends Year at Same Level as 1979

Monday, January 5th, 2009

From the DailyTech.com

“Thanks to a rapid rebound in recent months, global sea ice levels now equal those seen 29 years ago, when the year 1979 also drew to a close.

Earlier this year, predictions were rife that the North Pole could melt entirely in 2008. Instead, the Arctic ice saw a substantial recovery. Bill Chapman, a researcher with the UIUC’s Arctic Center, tells DailyTech this was due in part to colder temperatures in the region. Chapman says wind patterns have also been weaker this year. Strong winds can slow ice formation as well as forcing ice into warmer waters where it will melt.”

The article goes on to state that the “rate of increase from September onward is the fastest rate of change on record, either upwards or downwards. ”

Oh my! Ice age cometh…

Not withstanding that the earth has been cooling over the last 10 years…
