Scientists warn Christmas lights harm the planet

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

In the Courier Mail from Australia:

“CSIRO researchers said householders should know that each bulb turned on in the name of Christmas will increase emissions of greenhouse gases.

Dr Platt added: “For a zero-emission Christmas light show, you may consider using solar powered lights or sourcing your electricity from verified green power suppliers.”

One would think that with all that increased CO2 that we would be warmer in the winter. However, we’re looking at a decade of decreased temperatures.

If we actually did get increased temperatures, perhaps the poorer countries of the world would be able to grow more food. More humans die from cold than heat every year…

Frigid Storm Closes California Freeways, Drops Snow in Malibu

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Out of Los Angeles: Snow snarled major mountain highways and even dusted Malibu on Wednesday as a cold storm hit parts of California.

It was the first time in his 15 years with Metrolink that snow had caused such problems, Oaxaca said.

Transit agencies in the East have special equipment to clear tracks and otherwise handle snow but “we’re not equipped for this kind of weather on a consistent basis in this part of the world,” Oaxaca said.

CNN Meteorologist: Manmade Global Warming Theory ‘Arrogant’

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

From the The Business and Media Institure:

CNN Meteorologist Chad Myers had never bought into the notion that man can alter the climate and the Vegas snowstorm didn’t impact his opinion.

“You know, to think that we could affect weather all that much is pretty arrogant,” Myers said. “Mother Nature is so big, the world is so big, the oceans are so big – I think we’re going to die from a lack of fresh water or we’re going to die from ocean acidification before we die from global warming, for sure.”

He’s the second CNN meteorologist to challange the notion that man has caused climate change.

“The last 10 years have been quite cool,” Lehr continued. “And right now, I think we’re going into cooling rather than warming and that should be a much greater concern for humankind. But, all we can do is adapt. It is the sun that does it, not man.”
